Understand why only the office iPad can punch
How the time clock stays locked to your office iPad so employees can't clock in from home, and what they see if they try.
Clocking in and out works only on a device you've authorized — your office iPad. An employee on their own phone can't punch in, even if they know their PIN. This keeps punches honest without slowing anyone down: the iPad sits on the counter, the line moves, and nobody can clock in from the parking lot or from home.
When you activate the office iPad, it gets a private device link tied to your workspace. Every punch checks for that link. The office iPad has it, so punches go through. A personal phone doesn't, so it's turned away.
What an employee sees on an unauthorized device
If someone opens the time clock on their own phone, they land on a Device Not Authorized page. It tells them clock in and out can only be done from the office iPad, and gives them a View My Hours button to open the employee portal instead, where they can check their hours read-only.
Employees can still check hours anywhere
The lock is only on punching. From any phone, an employee can sign in to the employee portal to view their hours. They just can't clock in or out there.
